Main Objective
The work consisted of the replacement of one side of a double-ended substation switchgear that was damaged during an incident at the ACC South PDC; the replacement included three sections of Low Voltage Switchgear consisting of one Main breaker.
The Challenge
Installation/commissioning, mainly because the damage of the removed equipment made it impossible to inspect for any missing parts, those problems were promptly mitigated by reviewing technical drawings and spec sheets.
The Solution
The reconstruction took place inside the South Air-Cooled Condensed Power Distribution Center (ACC 2 PDC) where the existing Switchgear SWG-321 is located, following the stages of Demolition, Installation, Grounding, Controls, and Start-Up. Other major aspects included replacing feeder cables, re-connection of non-segregated bus duct from the transformer, and re-termination of all wiring as per the original installation. The project was completed following the technical requirements detailed by Dominion Energy. Field testing, verification, and commissioning were completed by DCEC engineers in October 2020.
